A description of the environment a Pika needs to live in....
"cool, moist microhabitats on higher peaks or along watercourses. Pikas live in regions with short summers (<20 days/year above 35°C; 82% of 50 patches), long winters(> 180 days/year below 0°C; 94%), a freezefree period of <90 days (86%), and annual precipitation >300 mm (96%). All extant pikas are restricted to regions of <30 days/year above 35°C, >ISO days/year below 0°C,a freeze-free period <120 days, and >200 mm annual precipitation."( Hafner 1991)
Pikas primarily live in talus or rocky environments that provide both protection from predators and a cooler place to retreat from warmer temperatures (Beever).
